President's Message

It is a special honor and a privilege to begin my term as president of the North Georgia Health Information Management Association (2019 - 2020).

With the many changes in the healthcare industry, we are confronted daily with decisions and challenges that impact health information management. As leaders, we must stay abreast of changes in informatics and data analytics, which will foster change in the way health information is managed and delivered. We must embrace technological advancements, changes, and new developments in order to meet future demands of healthcare and to efficiently access health information.

One of my goals is to continue the avenue created for mentoring and volunteering opportunities. Students and new professionals are the future leaders of our association and the HIM industry and it is essential to ensure that those taking their first steps down the HIM career path are given the right support and guidance to be successful.

Another goal is to ensure that the many benefits and activities remain available so that each of you can take advantage of them as a member of NGHIMA. Some include, Quarterly Business Meetings, Annual Education Meeting, and collaboration with GHIMA regarding Coding Roundtables, Virtual Education Sessions (Webinars) and access to various HIM Resources. As a result, we can maintain our credentials by attaining continuing education units and networking among each other.

With support of the Executive Board, Committee Chairs and you, NGHIMA members, we all will strive in our unique way to continue to accomplish the goals and objectives while pursuing opportunities that increase our membership’s knowledge in critical areas of HIM.

I have been blessed to experience a lucrative and rewarding career in HIM. My way to give back is to volunteer my time in service. In the words of Shirley Chisholm, “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.” I will do my best to serve you, our members, and to serve with the executive board and committee chairs for the next fiscal year. Thank you in advance for your support, and please do not hesitate to let me know what you think will make this organization better.

Best Regards,

Valerie Wrice, MBA RHIA, CCS
President, NGHIMA (2019-2020)
